Hot Topic

For this assignment I chose to go and inspect the store Hot Topic at university mall. I honestly can say that I had never been in the store before this.

My original conception of the store was that everything was geared towards people who were into the clothing category of "punk". I soon learned that the store is geared more towards people who like music, and also the "punk".

Many of the people in the store were dressed from head to toe in the stores clothing and others were not at all. The store attracted many different types of people. There were even some shirts inside that I liked. I don't know why I just never went into the store before.

The employees were also very kind. They greeted me and asked if I needed any help. Overall, I liked the store. There are alot of band shirts that I think I could find one for all of my friends, including myself.

The Persuaders

Watching Frontline's "The Persuaders" gave me alot of insight into the way things are today in the advertising industry. The Video shows that advertising is all around us everywhere we go. It is becoming harder for people in the industry to find ways and places to present the ads to consumer. I enjoyed the video because it informed me on how essential advertising is. The ads around us become part of our daily lives. I have a new respect for people working in the advertising feild and appreciated the work they put into it.

1.The video talks about people trying to find and idenity or family through a brand. I think this means that people are looking for something that expresses them and can also join them together with others. Car brands are a great example. Chevy or Ford, great conversation starter between two people that could start a friendship.

2. It is our nature now a days to be persuaded. One of the main ways presented in the movie to persuade consumers was one company making themselves seem better than the other. Also, advertisers use differnt adjectives to describe their product such as, organic, natural, ect.

3. Today I beleive the world of advertising is headed farther than we have seen it. There are limitless amounts of ideas and strategies that can be thought of. It will just take time for the advertising world to find away around tivo and those types of things. Like in the movie they showed advertising in television shows and movies. Advertising is all around us, and will only be around us more in the future.

RAW

I beleive that the steps students took to raise awareness about binge drinking were much more successful than we all thought. There are people out there who refuse to listen, but those other students with an open and curios mind were very willing to learn and appreciate what everyone was doing. I think giving out free hugs like we did was a great way to get on a more personal level with everyone. We may have only gotten to a small portion of the students body, but next time those students are out drinking, they may realize that you don't have to be drunk to hug random people.

My favorite investment

I have purchased many things so far in life, but the thing that I treasure the most is my laptop. It is a HewletPackard dv200. When I think of HP I think of the words computer, printer, fast, reliable, and money. The first word I think of is pretty obvious and the same goes with the word printer; the two go hand in hand. I think of fast and reliable because my computer does both for me. I have never had a problem with it what so ever. I think of money when I think of my computer because it was a big investment for me. The top ten things that people thought of on Brandtags.net were printer, computer, print, crap, PC, laptop, invent, HP, boring and old. My perception about HP similar because many other people think of computer and printer, but people also seem to have a bad idea of HP. I do not understand why, but some people think of crap when they hear the brand. The computer has done nothing but good for me, but that may not be the case for others. Overall, no matter what other think, I love my HP and it has done nothing but good for me.

Dr. Pepper

This is one of my favorite commercialls of all time. Number one, the song is very catchy and everyone knows it, and number two, the commercial is funny and you have to feel sorry for that poor guy. Even though I liked Dr. Pepper before I saw this commercial, it still made me want to go out and by it because well, i dunno it just did. I think that everytime someone who has seen the commercial hears that song, they will think of Dr. Pepper. This I think shows that the ad justified its purpose.

A Fresh Start

Last semester did not turn out exactly the way that I wanted it too. My grades were average I suppose, but they were not what I had hoped for. I felt like crap all of the time because I was not very active. It is very easy to become lazy in college. This semester my number one goal is to be organized! I think that if i have everything in place, things will go by much smoother. I want to set aside time by myself to study so that this semester I can get the grades I want, in all of my classes. I also think that if I start working out and being active on a regular basis I will feel more motivated than in the past. I know this may sound like the typical "Starting Fresh Scenario" , but I think that I can stick to these goals and have a great second half of the school year. Thanks and wish me luck!
